SOUNDSCAPE 06 / FOREST AMBIENT
Under the green canopy
Let the light take the long way through.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SOUND
Two bends beyond the parking area, the sounds of the city begin to fade. Yesterday’s rain still clings to the leaf tips, occasionally falling into shallow water beside the path. You have not chosen a destination for the walk. For now, somewhere with more trees is enough. A shoe sinks slightly into soft soil and your pace slows without a decision.
The chords suggest no definite room. They feel more like the changing gaps between leaves. A few higher notes appear and return to long tails of sound; the small pulse does not hurry your feet. Following the railing uphill, you notice a fallen branch across the edge of a step and move it aside. On an ordinary day, the action would hardly be something to remember.
At the top, light comes through a thinner patch in the canopy. You sit on a wooden bench and hear a shoelace tip tap against its leg. Wind through different leaves does not make quite the same sound, you realize. As the melody leaves a little silence, details that had been in the background come one by one into the foreground.
You still do not measure how far you walked on the way back. The path has supplied no special answer, and nothing has happened that belongs in the news. But you remember the warmth of light on your hand and the patch of wet stone revealed when you moved the branch. Some moments leave enough simply by leaving those small things behind.
