SOUNDSCAPE 10 / SOFT COSMIC PULSE
A distant orbit
A small signal in a very large sky.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SOUND
When the observatory door closes, the wind stays outside. A few screens light the room. A logbook full of dates lies beneath a paperweight at the corner of the desk. You leave your coat over a chair and check the part of the sky scheduled for tonight. Time here is less often divided into little pieces by messages. Mostly, it moves patiently forward.
A sequence of short notes begins pulsing low in the sound, suggesting a signal whose coordinates have not yet been found. The chords are not heavy. They give the repeated notes a large, quiet background. Following the rhythm, you sort several charts and check the markings from the previous visit. Your reflection rests on the window; behind it, the darkness is deeper and stiller.
While waiting for clouds to move, you remember a serious childhood question: if a star is no longer there but we can still see its light, is that a letter arriving late? Nobody needs to answer tonight. You watch the small changes on the screen and think that some replies take a long time to travel. Slow does not always mean they will never arrive.
Later, the target area becomes a little clearer. You enter an ordinary line of data in the log and draw a tiny circle in the margin. The music keeps its pulse. The observatory remains where it has always been. There is no grand discovery and no sudden applause, only someone willing to wait a little longer for a letter sent into the distance.
