SOUNDSCAPE 31 / HARBOR LO-FI
After the harbor rain
A little room between the last boat and home.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SOUND
Rain has polished the narrow road through the harbor. You meant only to take a shortcut home, but a sudden heavier shower leaves you beside the ticket booth. Water falls from the awning into an empty bucket with surprising regularity. The last small boat has docked. A few people wheel carts past, their footsteps briefly disturbing puddles that the next raindrops immediately smooth again.
The melody moves softly in the lower register, like a moored boat that remains in place while never becoming entirely still. You move your bag to make space for someone holding a cardboard box. They unfold a receipt with wet edges and ask whether a printing shop nearby might still be open. After a moment, you remember one directly along your route home.
When the shower eases, you follow the warehouse wall together. The box contains repaired fishing-net fittings, nothing especially delicate, but their coat stays carefully over it. At the shop, you hold down a corner of paper lifted by the breeze and watch a fresh inventory emerge from the printer. Under the counter lamp, every little square on the list becomes clear.
At the next corner, they point back toward the harbor and suggest returning on a clear evening to see the boat shadows. You do not ask their name. You remember instead the steady water falling into the bucket. The journey home has grown slightly longer, but the rain has stopped. Beneath it all, the small pulse continues, as if someone has tied an unobtrusive, careful knot in an ordinary evening.
